Another week, another round-up.
For this week’s round-up, I decided to spice things up and find five songs that had one thing in common. These tracks are all relaxed pop songs by rising artists.
Be sure to check out the full MusicGrapes playlist on Spotify and feel free to leave any music suggestions for next week’s in the comments!
Did We Change | From Indian Lakes, Lynn Gunn
Release Date: October 18, 2019
I’m likely biased by my Nintendo DS addiction, but I strongly believe “Did We Change” by Four Indian Lakes and Lynn Gunn deserves a slot on this laid-back pop round-up solely for having a beat that slightly resembles an Animal Crossing soundtrack.
It’s as if I’m shopping for flowers seeds or fishing for a boot in the river. What’s more calm and laid-back than that?
I’m Just Wild about Harry | morgxn
Release Date: February 14, 2020
Featured in the 2020 movie “The Thing About Harry,” morgxn covered the 1921 foxtrot song “I’m Just Wild About Harry.” The song was originally made for the Broadway musical Shuffle Along.
morgxn’s version is an atmospheric, beat-driven track that’s as equally sweet (just like sugar candy) as the original.
David Bowie | chloe mk
Release Date: July 19, 2019
While ripe with energy, “David Bowie” by chloe mk is a great background single for studying and relaxing. The steady beat and ethereal vocals resemble the ease of lofi hip-hop music.
chloe mk describes her debut EP, Fantasy, and music in general as “internet-pop.”
Pisces | Miranda Glory
Release Date: October 25, 2019
Miranda Glory’s latest single “Pisces” is a chill pop song with sweet sounding vocals and some incredibly catchy vocals – specifically the chorus. I was instantly drawn to this song with the one of the opening lyrics singling me and my Sunday evening out so accurately: “busy being moody, i’ll probably watch a sad movie.“
The Los Angeles based singer-songwriter has been featured on a number of hot tracks, including LIONE’s “Kids.”
Desperately Seeking Susan | foxgluvv
Release Date: August 2, 2019
Smooth and nostalgic, foxgluvv’s Desparately Seeking Susan is a laid-back pop bop.
The song is heavily influenced by 80s synth that pairs with bright, yet dreamy vocals. This vintage quality is likely achieved through her DIY style of production.
foxgluvv categorizes her style of music as “hungover pop,” the perfect aesthetics for your late night parties.
