Another week, another round-up.
The selections this time around are rather varied, with French pop, contemporary folk, hip-hop/rap, and more making the cut.
Happy listening!
Tôt ou tard | Eli Rose
Genre: French Pop
Release Date: February 7, 2019
Despite knowing a bit of French myself, I think Eli Rose’s “Tôt ou tard” can be appreciated without understanding the lyrics. The electronica instrumental has a mellow vibe with bright, yet ethereal singing.
Eli released her debut album, Eli Rose, this past November with 10 tracks of Urban Pop.
Trials of a Lonelier Man | Late Night Episode
Genre: Alternative
Release Date: November 28, 2019
Following their debut Lay Off album, Late Night Episode released “Trials of a Lonelier Man” this past Fall. The single takes a more laid back approach to instrumentals, while keeping their trademark voice and vivid storytelling.
Late Night Episode always brings me back to memories of milkshakes and road-trips in the summer- be that their intention or not.
No Warm-Up | SonReal
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Release Date: August 11, 2016
As track 9 on his first full-length studio album, One Long Dream, SonReal’s “No Warm-Up” competes against so many other quality songs. Despite that, it reached #52 on the Billboard Hot 100 Canadian chart and was certified Platinum in Canada.
I had the wonderful experience of watching him perform live and this single has just as much energy in-person as it does through headphones.
WeT | Girl Wilde
Genre: Pop
Release Date: August 30, 2019
On her debut album, Probably Crying, Girl Wilde unapologetically captures the range of emotions that strike when you’re young and mess.
Uncensored and upbeat, “WeT” is a pop-rock, grunge-y anthem that is a perfect follow-up to the prior song, “I Don’t Wanna Die.”
Mother’s Girl | Rett Madison
Genre: Contemporary Folk
Release Date: May 10, 2018
As soon as you hear Rett Madison’s voice, you will be blown away. She has a full, gorgeous voice that reminds me so much of The Dixie Chicks.
“Mother’s Girl” is lyrically strong with somber storytelling and truly captures the power of Rett’s voice. As an extremely talented singer and songwriter, I’m excited to hear all the music she releases in the coming months.
